Thunderbolt Pass is currently undergoing many wonderful changes thanks to the commitment of the Evansville Vanderburgh Airport Authority. These changes will dramatically change and enchance the experience for all golfers at Thunderbolt Pass Golf Course.
The clubhouse has gotten a brand new roof, a new point of sale golf system, new carpet, renovation to the restrooms, 60 brand new state-of-the-art Club Car Precedent golf carts, and new menu items available in the Snack Bar. The golf course will also be undergoing many improvements including irrigation improvements for better turf gass, programs to enhance turf quality, top-dressing applications to enhance greens complexes, bunker renovation and tee box renovation. The price to play golf at Thunderbolt Pass Golf Course will remain the same as 2008 and we will be Open Year Round for play.
History of the Thunderbolt
Built in greater quantities than any other US fighter, the P-47 was the heaviest single-engine WWII fighter to go into production and the first piston-powered fighter to exceed 500 mph. The Thunderbolt preformed 546,000 combat sorties between March of 1943 and August 1945 and is considered the real forerunner of today's multi-role fighters. Demand for the Thunderbolt was so great that Republic built a new factory at Evansville, Indiana to augment production of the P-47D. 1,050 P-47D's were ordered from Evansville on January 31, 1942.
